

For most of the book he believed he wasn’t an epic. If you remember, at the end of Firefight he was turned into an epic but he never manifested any powers. Then there was the deal with David’s epic powers. It never got truly hard for them, did it? I never thought their lives were actually on the line. Also Knighthawk made things rather easy for them. As for the supposed plot twist concerning Calamity, I guessed that early one. So there is so little consequence to their bad plans. They never die though or when they get hurt they always get healed. David’s plans that always turned out a mess. Starting fights that they never seemed to win. The plot dragged, especially at the start where there was just a lot of running around.

It still certainly wasn’t a masterpiece in any way though. David certainly wasn’t as horrible as he was in Firefight. I was dreading reading this, but it didn’t turn out quite as bad as I thought it was going to be. And David is just about crazy enough to face down the most powerful High Epic of all to get his friend back. Redemption is possible for Epics-Megan proved it. He’s disappeared into those murky shadows of menace Epics are infamous for the world over, and everyone knows there’s no turning back…īut everyone is wrong. But facing Obliteration in Babilar was too much.
